Check Your Eligibility

Use our eligibility checker above or visit immi.homeaffairs.gov.au to confirm which visa applies to you based on your nationality and travel purpose.

Create an ImmiAccount

Register for a free ImmiAccount at immi.homeaffairs.gov.au. This is Australia's official portal for all visa applications. For ETA, download the Australian ETA app instead.

Gather Your Documents

Collect all required documents (see table above). Scan or photograph them clearly. Bank statements, employment letters, and travel itineraries should all be in English or translated.

Submit Your Application

Complete the online application form and upload your documents. Pay the visa fee by credit/debit card. You'll receive a confirmation email with your application reference number.

Wait for a Decision

Processing times vary by visa type and individual circumstances. eVisitors and ETAs are usually instant to 72 hours. Tourist 600 visas typically take 20–40 working days. Apply early!

Important

Key Things to Know

Australia has specific entry requirements you must be aware of before travelling.

🌿 Australia's Strict Biosecurity Rules

Australia has some of the strictest biosecurity laws in the world. You must declare all food, plant material, animal products, and soil on your incoming passenger card. Failure to declare can result in fines of up to AUD $2,664 or prosecution. Do not bring fresh fruit, vegetables, meats, seeds, or plant material.

πŸ’‰ Health Requirements

Some visa applicants may be required to undergo a health examination by an approved panel physician. This is common for longer stays or applicants from certain countries. Results are submitted directly to the Department of Home Affairs β€” not to you.

πŸ›‘οΈ Travel Insurance β€” Strongly Recommended

Australia does not have reciprocal healthcare agreements with most countries. Medical costs can be extremely high. We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance covering emergency medical care, evacuation, trip cancellation, and loss of belongings for all visitors.

πŸ’΅ Proof of Sufficient Funds

For tourist visa (Subclass 600) applications, you should be able to demonstrate access to sufficient funds for your visit β€” generally AUD $5,000 per month of stay is a reasonable guideline, though there is no fixed minimum. Bank statements for the last 3–6 months are ideal.

Plan Ahead

When to Apply β€” Seasonal Guide

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions about Australian visas from our clients.

For eVisitor and ETA visas, apply at least a week before departure β€” they're usually approved within hours. For the Tourist Visa (Subclass 600), apply at least 6–8 weeks before your planned travel date, allowing extra time during peak seasons (July, November–January). We recommend 12 weeks for applications from South Asia.

Yes, in some circumstances. Visitors on a Subclass 600 visa can apply for a further stay (extension) through ImmiAccount before their current visa expires. You must have a genuine reason for extending, such as compassionate circumstances. You cannot simply extend to add tourism time. Extensions are not guaranteed.

A refusal doesn't mean you can never visit Australia. You may be able to reapply with stronger supporting documents, or you may have rights to a merits review with the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT). Contact our visa team β€” we can review your refusal notice and advise on the best path forward. We work with registered migration agents for complex cases.

Yes β€” Australia does not have a standard visa-free transit policy. Even if you're just connecting flights, you will typically need either a transit visa or a valid visitor visa. Citizens of some countries may apply for a Transit Visa (Subclass 771), which is generally free. eVisitor and ETA holders can transit without a separate transit visa.

No. Tourist visas (eVisitor, ETA, Subclass 600) do not permit you to work in Australia for payment. Working without the right visa is a serious breach of your visa conditions and can result in visa cancellation and a ban on returning to Australia. If you wish to work and travel, apply for a Working Holiday Visa (417 or 462).

Both allow multiple short stays in Australia of up to 3 months each. The eVisitor (651) is free and for citizens of EU and certain European countries β€” applied for online via ImmiAccount. The ETA (601) costs AUD $20 and is for USA, Canada, Japan, Singapore, and other select countries β€” applied via the Australian ETA app. They are not interchangeable.

There is no official minimum amount specified by the Department of Home Affairs. However, as a general guideline, demonstrating access to AUD $4,000–$5,000 per month of your planned stay is advisable. Your bank statements should show a consistent balance rather than large recent deposits. Savings of AUD $10,000–$15,000 is generally sufficient for most 1–3 month visits.
